Pennsylvania has recently opened its Medicaid enrollment and plan selection period, but with some very notable plan changes.
As the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) opened its plan selection period for Medicaid (Medical Assistance or MA) yesterday, they also announced significant changes to insurance plans. On September 1, 2022, DHS will implement new physical health managed care agreements resulting in some consumers having to choose a new physical health plan.
DHS announced that it is mailing out letters to Medicaid enrollees detailing new health care plan options and changes to physical health managed care plans. Several plans will no longer continue after September 1, 2022. Approximately 500,000 Medicaid consumers must select new physical health plans by August 16, 2022, or a new plan will be assigned to them automatically.
“This is an important step in continuing to strive for superior quality of care and services for vulnerable Pennsylvanians, and as we move through the plan selection period,” said DHS Acting Secretary Meg Snead. “I strongly encourage all Medicaid recipients to review their options, look for plans that include doctors you use and hospitals in your area, and choose a plan that best meets your individual needs before August 16.”
The DHS notes that these changes will not impact the Children Health Insurance Program (CHIP) recipients, anyone Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan (DSNP) coverage, Community HealthChoices (CHC), or a Behavioral HealthChoices plan enrollees.
